Team RLR Joins Alpina

RLR RACING – OBJECTIVE LE MANS

Where can you really test a watch? What can you do to make sure that the watch you make is really put through its paces? If you make high end sports watches as Alpina do, you want your watches to right into the heart of the action.

And you cannot get more into the heart of the action than being worn on the wrists of the drivers of a Le Mans sports car as it throws itself around some of the most challenging European racetracks for up to 24 Hours a time.

Next year, Alpina will be sponsoring the RLR MSport MG Lola race car in its efforts to win the classic and world famous Le Mans 24 Hour race. But before then they will be racing in the European Le Mans series, where sports cars of all shapes and sizes race on the same track and at the same time. The RLR Team is racing in the LMP2 category, and if results from 2010 are anything to go by, have an excellent chance of winning both the series and Le Mans.

Each of the team members has their own watch from the Alpina Racing collection and really wear it when hurtling around the circuits. A race car, such as the Lola of the team is like nothing that is found on roads – it is a completely different beast. Able to reach speeds of up to 270 kmh, and when cornering can create a G-force of equal to 5G, the car is a lean, mean racing machine and a perfect test bed for an Alpina watch.

Given that the drivers are racing for hours at a time, lap after punishing lap, it is imperative that they know how long and how fast they were doing and that they don’t have time to read the telemetry but need to know with a split second glance. Their watches allow them to do this, with a clear and easy to read dial and a supremely accurate chronometer, these are time pieces that have been tested in the heat of battle and are as tough and durable as the drivers had hoped for – and they are beautiful with it, at home both in the cockpit and in the boardroom.
