The Alpina Extreme Regulator, Alpina Extreme Automatic and, more
recently, the Alpina Manufacture Regulator were collections designed to
explore the summits. The Alpina brand is now branching out into the
world of diving watches.
With its angular and sophisticated design, the newly-released Alpina
Extreme Diver 1000 Meters takes over where its big sisters left off.
What's more, it is decked out with a unidirectional rotating bezel
displaying the time in minutes. The bezel measures elapsed time in
minutes for the first fifteen minutes and then in ten minute segments
after that. The luminous triangle marker highlights the 12 o'clock
position.
The black watch dial displays the date within a half-moon shaped
display positioned at 3 o'clock. The day of the week is also displayed
within the brand's famous red triangle. Alpina has kept this red
triangle as a form of decoration in the centre of the watch face.
In the classic extreme design, measuring 48 mm, the Alpina Extreme
Diver 1000 Meters stands out at the bottom of the sea. Even in the
darkness of the ocean-depths, the time will be clearly visible thanks to
the watch hands, Arabic numerals and luminous index markers.
The brand's latest release replaces mechanical dial movement with
automatic winding AL-525, a feature already used in the Alpina Extreme
Automatic. This watch has a 42-hour power reserve, a blue-stained face
decorated with mother of pearl and can be viewed through a sapphire
glass window.
The helium escape valve located on the edge at the 10 o'clock position
is an essential feature of a diving watch. In fact, when diving tens of
meters below sea level for long periods of time, helium atoms can build
up in the case. These atoms could expand and damage the watch when
ascending. This escape valve, which is used during the decompression
stop, allows the Alpina Extreme Diver 1000 Meters mechanism to remain
intact.
The Alpina Extreme Diver 1000 Meters is available in two versions; one
is made of surgical grade stainless steel with a black dial and the
other is "Full Black", i.e. has a PVD case and a black dial.
